Madhabi Puri Buch Appointed SEBI Chairperson
Earlier, Buch was a whole-time member at SEBI from April 2017 till October 2021.
The Appointments Committee of the cabinet named Madhabi Puri Buch as next chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
Buch has been appointed for an initial term of three years, according to a government notification. She replaces Ajay Tyagi whose term ends on Monday.
Madhabi Puri Buch is SEBI's tenth head and its first woman chair. Her appointment marks the first such SEBI chair selection from the private sector after over 15 years.
Buch was first appointed as a whole-time member at SEBI in April 2017. She received several extensions and her earlier role at the regulator ended in October last year.

Market intermediaries regulation & supervision
Integrated surveillance
Economic & policy analysis
Investor assistance & education,
National Institute of Securities Markets and Information Technology Department.
Prior to joining SEBI, Buch served as consultant to the New Development Bank in Shanghai, China. She was the head of the Singapore office of the private equity firm Greater Pacific Capital. She also served as the managing director and chief executive officer at ICICI Securities Ltd. and as an executive director on the board of ICICI Bank Ltd.
Buch holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and is a graduate in mathematics from St. Stephen's College, New Delhi.
