Lupin Plant In Gujarat Closed After 8 Workers Test Positive For Covid-19

Lupin has nine plants at Ankleshwar, Gujarat, where intermediates and APIs for drugs are manufactured.

A Lupin Ltd. plant in Ankleshwar, Gujarat, has been closed after at least eight workers tested positive for the coronavirus, officials said on Tueasday.

"Results of samples of others are awaited. The plant was closed on July 12 when first cases were reported," Bharuch Collector MD Modia said. The facility employs around 200 people and all of them are being tested for the viral infection, he said.

Tuberculosis drugs are manufactured at this plant, he added.

Lupin proactively shut down Plant No. 7 in Ankleshwar to carry out sanitisation after positive cases were found, said a health department official.

Lupin, an Indian pharmaceutical multinational, has nine plants at Ankleshwar where intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients are manufactured. It serves key markets of Italy, China, Canada as well as the domestic market, as per the company's website.

On Tuesday, Lupin shares rose 0.42% to Rs 872.95 apiece on the BSE while the benchmark Sensex shed 1.80% to end the day at 36,033.06 points.
