Long queues made a comeback at toll plazas across the country, starting the midnight of December 2, as the government pulled back demonetisation relaxations and toll collections resumed.

Anticipating the maddening rush on a Monday morning, toll plazas around Mumbai stocked up enough cash to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

However, the point-of-sale machines promised by the government are yet to be installed at most toll plazas in the city.

Over the weekend, long queues were seen on all toll plazas, including the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the old highway between the two cities, and the Vashi toll booth on Sion-Panvel highway.
