KKR & Co. hired Ford Motor Co.’s Pamela Alexander to oversee the private equity firm’s corporate citizenship and philanthropy programs.

Alexander, 54, will be based in New York and also work with KKR’s portfolio companies, according to an emailed statement. She succeeds Ali Hartman, who left to oversee responsible investment at Tiger Global Management.

Alexander spent more than two decades in senior community development and government relations positions at Detroit-based Ford, where she oversaw the creation of a safe-driving program for teenagers, grants to female entrepreneurs and efforts to recognize the accomplishments of African-American men. She’s a member of several nonprofit boards, including the Grammy Museum Foundation, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and NAACP Foundation.

In 2016, KKR started its citizenship program to “help create healthier, more inclusive and more resilient communities around the world,” the New York-based firm said in the statement. For example, it launched a $50 million Covid Relief Fund. Other buyout giants, including Apollo Global Management Inc. and Blackstone Inc., have similar citizenship programs.

“I am honored to be joining a company that shares my passion for community engagement and belief in the power that corporate citizenship can have in driving positive impact and empowering people and communities to reach their full potential,” Alexander said in the statement.
