(Bloomberg) -- Hyundai Motor Co. introduced the first sport utility vehicle for its premium Genesis marque, taking on brands such as BMW, Porsche and Lexus in the high-margin product segment.

The Genesis GV80 will launch with a 3-liter diesel engine in South Korea, and two gasoline variants with turbocharged engines will join the lineup soon afterward, the Seoul-based carmaker said in a statement Wednesday. The vehicle will start selling in the U.S. later this year. The company didn’t give pricing details.

Executive Vice Chairman Chung Euisun is pushing to improve Hyundai’s profitability by adding more SUVs, including the Palisade and Venue that went on sale last year. The company last month committed $17 billion in spending in the development of electric vehicles and technologies including autonomous driving.

The GV80 has a 14.5-inch split-screen display that sits on top of the dashboard. The driver’s seat has air cells that Hyundai says can help reduce fatigue from driving long hours, and the vehicle is also equipped with an air-purifying system.
