Guinness Lager’s U.S. Maker City Brewing Weighs a Sale

City Brewing Co., a contract beer-brewer, is considering a sale, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The company could fetch more than $1 billion in a sale, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private information.

City Brewing hasn’t made a final decision to pursue a sale, the people said.

A representative for City Brewing didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

The company produces about 40 different brew recipes for contract brewing customers including The Bronx Brewery and Duquesne Pilsner. City Brewing had made Guinness Blonde American Lager until Diageo Plc moved production to its own brewery in Maryland.

City Brewing also operates a packaging business as well as warehouses and distribution services, according to its website.

The company operates three facilities, one each in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
