Czechs Warn Hackers Are Preparing Cyber Attacks on Hospitals

(Bloomberg) -- A campaign of serious hacker attacks on Czech hospitals is highly probable in the coming days, the country’s National Cyber and Information Security Agency said.

The warning follows an attack last month at the Faculty Hospital in the second-largest Czech city of Brno, where officials were forced to evacuate patients.

The threat created a “justified fear of the real threat of serious cyber attacks on significant targets,” Karel Rehka, the head of the agency, said in a statement Thursday.

Earlier this month, Interpol warned of a significant increase in attempted ransomware attacks against hospitals, in which hackers lock administrators out of their critical systems in an attempt to extort payments.
