Classic Legends Sells More Than 50,000 Jawa Motorcycles In 12 Months

Classic Legends has sold more than 50,000 Jawa motorcycles within one year of its full operations. The firm is now looking to expand production capacity as well as dealership network iIndia.

This sales milestone was achieved in an “effective twelve months of full operations, considering the complete halt during the lockdown period with near-zero inventories due to the waiting period the brand commands”, according to a statement Wednesday.

Classic Legends has also started exports to Europe and Nepal.

The wholly owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. had in November 2018 revived the Czech motorcycle brand with three models—the Jawa, Jawa 42 and the Perak, which was launched a year later. The motorcycles are produced at Mahindra’s manufacturing facility in Pithampur near Indore in Madhya Pradesh, which can churn out five lakh vehicles per annum.

It was in October 2016 that Mahindra bought a controlling stake in Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd., which had recently acquired British motorcycle company BSA Co. along with all its existing global brand rights. Classic Legends had also signed an exclusive brand licence agreement for the Jawa.

While Mahindra has a 60% stake in Classic Legends, the rest is held by Anupam Thareja, founder of Classic Legends, and Boman Irani, chairman and managing director at the Rustomjee Group.
