Britannia Industries Ltd. has partnered Accenture Plc to streamline procurement, accelerate innovation and improve customer and supplier experience.

By digitising more than 80 manufacturing units and 50 warehouses, the maker of Good Day biscuits can significantly reduce IT operational costs and unlock capital for innovation and growth initiatives, it said in a statement. “The system will improve inventory optimisation, product availability and workforce productivity for Britannia by building effective business processes across manufacturing, finance, sales and supply chain management.”

Britannia's focus on digital operations comes as the pandemic has accelerated the shift to online services. Its larger peer Hindustan Unilever Ltd., India's biggest consumer goods maker, is already using technology for improved warehouse management to connecting with retail outlets and consumers.

In the statement announcing its tie-up with Accenture, Britannia said the Ireland-based IT services and consulting company has developed, designed and deployed a technology-based cloud system to increase visibility and accessibility of data across the organisation and enable deeper use of automation and analytics to guide business decisions. That, it said, would help Britannia to better respond to the changing market trends.

Britannia has a turnover of more than Rs 12,500 crore and is present in more than 80 countries across North America, Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Gulf Cooperation Council.

“Despite the challenging business environment in the past year, we have witnessed a steady growth in our business performance,” N Venkataraman, executive director and chief financial officer at the consumer goods maker, said. “At Britannia, we are committed to expanding to new product categories in line with consumer expectations and entering one new market every year. The digital transformation of our business, supported by Accenture, will play a pivotal role in growing our business at speed and scale with data-backed insights and operational efficiencies.”

According to Manish Gupta, managing director and lead for Accenture’s products practice in India, the transformation in Britannia’s core operations will not only benefit its entire value chain of suppliers, retailers and partners, but also create a solid foundation for innovation and new growth opportunities in today’s integrated marketplace. Technology, Gupta said, would remain a critical enabler for businesses looking to spot and respond to evolving consumer and market demand.
