Boeing Tracks Faulty Parts From ‘Sub-Tier’ Dreamliner Supplier

Boeing Co. executives provided few clues about when the company expects to resume 787 Dreamliner deliveries during an earnings call Wednesday, pointing to the latest quality lapse with a “sub-tier supplier.”

  • The planemaker has “segmented” the suspect parts it is tracking through its supply chain, CEO Dave Calhoun said
  • While the FAA has the final say on when 787 deliveries resume, Calhoun said Boeing has “a clear line of sight to the steps ahead, and we are continuing to make steady progress to begin delivering airplanes to our customers”
  • CEO wouldn’t say when Boeing expects to clear its inventory of 105 undelivered Dreamliners
    • Delivery pace will depend on airlines’ willingness to take wide-body jets in disrupted travel market
    • “I can’t jam them down anybody’s throat,” Calhoun said
    • Doesn’t see inspections and repairs slowing 787 handovers
  • Boeing shares reversed earlier gains to fall as much as 2% to $205.64 during the earnings call
