Auto Sales January 2022 Live: Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto Rises Marginally

M&M Auto & Farm Sales Rise

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.'s auto segment posted an overall sales of 46,804 units in January, a rise of 19.52% over the preceding month, even as the company continue to closely monitor the chip shortage related parts crunch.

M&M’s passenger car sales too rose 12.65% over December to 19,964 units in January.

"Despite various global supply chain challenges, we fulfilled our commitment of billing the first 14000 XUV700s by January 2022 and have registered close to 1,00,000 bookings since launch, a major milestone in the Indian SUV Industry," Veejay Nakra, CEO of Automotive Division at M&M, said in the statement.

The Farm Equipment segment sales also saw a sharp rise in sales as the tractor sales jumped 24.15% over the preceding month to 22,682 units in January.

Hemant Sikka, President of the Farm Equipment sector at M&M, said that it expects the momentum to recover in the coming months on account of good progress of Kharif procurement bringing liquidity in the hands of farmers and Rabi acreage showing signs of growth over last year.

TVS Motor Sells 2.66 Lakh Units In January 

TVS Motor Company's total sales rise 6.3% over the preceding month to 2.66 lakh units in January. The company however added that the production and sales of premium two-wheelers were severely affected due to the shortage of semiconductors.

Sales snapshot (M-o-M)

  • Total two-wheeler sales rose 7.9% to 2,54,139 units.

  • Motorcycles sales rose 2.73% to 1,37,360 units.

  • Scooters sales rose 19.2% to 80,580 units.

  • Three-wheeler sales, however, fell 18.6% to 15,541 units.

Maruti Suzuki Sales Rise Marginally 

Sales for India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., rose 0.80% month-on-month to 1,54,379 units in January, the company said in a statement as the shortage of electronic components continued to hurt production.

The company in a statement added that chip shortage had a minor impact on the production of vehicles during the month, and the shortage primarily affected the production of vehicles sold in domestic market.

Sales Snapshot (MoM)

  • Exports fell 19.49% to 17,937 units.

  • Mini and compact vehicle segment sales rose 5.18% to 90,106 units.

  • Utility vehicle sales however fell 1.32% to 26,624 units.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle Reports Record Sales

Tata Motors Ltd.’s passenger vehicle division sold a record 40,777 units in January, a 15.51% rise over the preceding month. This comes as the chip shortage crisis starts to ease for the automaker.

The company also reported highest ever SUV sales of 28,108 units in the month.

  • Tata Motors’ total domestic sales rose 9.31% to 72,485 units.

  • Total domestic commercial vehicle sales rose 3.2% to 35,268 units.

  • Commercial vehicle exports too rose 13.26% to 3,560 units.

  • Total electric vehicle sales stood at 2,892 units.

Bajaj Auto Sales Rise Marginally 

Bajaj Auto Ltd. sold 3,63,443 units in January, a rise of 0.3% over December, according to its exchange filing. That came as demand in the export markets fell sequentially.

  • Total domestic two-wheeler sales rise 2.15% to 1,49,656 units.

  • Total two-wheeler exports declined 1.24% to 2,13,787 units.

  • Total commercial vehicle sales too dropped 8.4% to 40,013 units.

Escorts Tractor Sales Rise 21.5%

Escorts Ltd.’s tractor sales rose over the preceding month in January but fell year-on-year.

Tractor sales rose 21.5% month-on-month to 5,707 units, the company said in an exchange filing. It sold 5,103 and 604 units in the domestic and overseas markets, respectively.

The wholesales, Escorts said, continue to be impacted in January due to unseasonal rainfall in certain parts of country, high base of last year and inflationary impact on short-term demand leading to higher level of channel inventory in certain geographies.

The company, however, sees recovery in the coming months due to improved liquidity in the hand of farmers, overall high Rabi sowing and good water level reservoirs.
