Auto Sales February 2022 Live: Hero Sales Fall 5.8%, TVS Motor & Royal Enfield Rises

Hero MotoCorp Sales Falls 5.8% In February

India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp Ltd. sold 3,58,254 units in February, the company said in an exchange filing on Tuesday evening. Hero MotoCorp's sales fell 5.8% over the last month.

The company now expects swift revival in sales in the coming months as coronavirus cases see sharp decline, lockdown restriction eases, and as economy gradually starts to open up. Measures announced in the FY23 Union Budget, to also aid revival, the company said in the statement.

Sales Snapshot (M-o-M)

  • Motorcycle sales fell by 5.7% to 3,38,454 units.

  • Scooter sales too declined 12.5% to 19,800 units.

  • Exports however rose 22.80% to 26,792 units.

TVS Motor Sales Rise 5.6%

TVS Motor Company's total sales rise 5.6% over the preceding month to 2.81 lakh units in February. The company however added that the production and sales of premium two-wheelers were severely affected due to the shortage of semiconductors.

"We are cautiously optimistic that the supply of semiconductors will improve in the coming months," the company added in the statement.

  • Total two-wheeler rose 5.3% to 2,67,625 units.

  • Motorcycles sales rose 4.4% to 1,43,523 units.

  • Scooters sales too rose 7.49% to 86,616 units.

  • Three-wheeler sales, however, fell 15.2% to 13,166 units.

Royal Enfield Sells 59,160 Units In February 

Royal Enfield, the maker of India's cult cruiser motorcycles, saw its sales rise marginally to 59,160 units in February. The Motorcycle maker sales rose 0.54% over the last month.

  • Sales of models with engine capacity up to 350cc fell 0.20% to 49,484 units.

  • Sales of models with capacity over 350cc rose 4.58% to 9,676 units.

  • Exports however fell the most by 23% to 7,025 units.

Ashok Leyland Sells 14,657 Units In February 

Ashok Leyland Ltd. reported an overall sales of 14,657 units in February , according to the company’s exchange filings. The automaker's sales rose 5.5% over the last month.

  • Total domestic sales rose 4.30% to 13,281 units.

  • Domestic medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales rose 9.5% to 8,280 units.

  • Domestic Light commercial vehicle sales however fell 2.85% to 5,001 units.

M&M Auto Segment Sales Rise, Tractor Falls 

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.'s auto segment posted an overall sales of 54,455 units in February, a rise of 16.34% over the preceding month, even as the company continue to closely monitor the chip shortage related parts crunch.

M&M’s passenger car sales too rose 38.56% over January to 27,663 units

Veejay Nakra, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., said that all the segments showed robust growth including SUVs, which registered the highest ever monthly volume. "We expect demand to continue to remain strong as the Covid situation eases further.

The Farm Equipment segment however saw its sales take a plunge as the tractor sales fell 9.8% over the preceding month to 20,437 units in February.

Hemant Sikka, President of the Farm Equipment sector at M&M, however remained optimistic and said that the agri indicators continue to be promising with Rabi sowing at an all-time high and higher liquidity with farmers on account of timely and record procurement of Kharif crops. "With record expansion in sown area for third consecutive Rabi season, we are optimistic for an all-time high crop production level," he added.

Maruti Suzuki Sales Rise 6.26% 

Sales for India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., rose 6.26% month-on-month to 1,64,056 units in February, the company said in a statement as the shortage of electronic components continued to hurt production.

The company said it also reported highest record monthly exports in February.

The company in a statement added that chip shortage had a minor impact on the production of vehicles during the month, and the shortage primarily affected the production of vehicles sold in domestic market.

  • Exports rose 34% to 24,021 units.

  • Mini and compact vehicle segment sales rose 8.19% to 97,486 units.

  • Utility vehicle sales however fell 4.74% to 25,360 units.

Tata Motors Passenger Car Sales Fall Marginally 

Tata Motors Ltd.’s passenger vehicle division sold 39,981 units in February, a 1.95% fall over the preceding month.

  • Tata Motors’ total domestic sales rose 1.91% to 73,875 units.

  • Total domestic commercial vehicle sales rose 6.5% to 37,522 units.

  • Commercial vehicle exports, however fell 2.75% to 3,658 units.

  • Total electric vehicle sales stood at 2,846 units.

Volvo Eicher Commercial Sales Rise

Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles, the commercial vehicle arm of Eicher Motors Ltd, reported and overall sales of 5,856 units in February, the company said in an exchange filing. VECV sales rose 7.76% over the last month.

Domestic sales rose 12.60% to 5,093 units.

Exports fell to 652 units from 802 units.

Escorts Sales Remain 'Subdued'

Escorts Ltd.’s tractor sales rose over the preceding month in February but fell year-on-year.

Tractor sales rose 7.13% month-on-month to 6,114 units, the company said in an exchange filing. It sold 5,686 and 428 units in the domestic and overseas markets, respectively.

Escorts said, the wholesales remained subdued as steep price increases due to higher inflation in commodity prices and above normal inventory levels with the channel are impacting retails.

The company, however, sees recovery in the coming months due to improved liquidity in the hand of farmers, increased budget allocation to rural and agri sector, overall high Rabi sowing and good water level reservoirs.
