April 2022 Auto Sales Live: Bajaj Auto Falls 20%, Hero MotoCorp Registers 12.45% Growth On Year

Hero MotoCorp Registers 12.45% Growth 

India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp Ltd. sold 4,18,622 units in April, registering a growth of 12.45% over the same period last year, the company said in an exchange filing. The sales also rose 16.8% over the preceding month.

Hero MotoCorp said with the economy gradually opening up and continued government policy support, April volumes indicate the continuously improving consumer sentiments.

Sales Snapshot (Y-o-Y)

  • Motorcycle sales rose 15.7% to 3,92,627 units.

  • Scooter sales, however, declined 21.2% to 25,995 units.

  • Exports too fell by 32.14% to 20,132 units.

Bajaj Auto Sales Fall 20%

Bajaj Auto Ltd. sold a total of 3,10,774 units in April, a fall of 20% over the same period last year, according to its exchange filing.

Sales snapshot (Y-o-Y)

  • Total domestic two-wheeler sales fell 26% to 93,233 units.

  • Total two-wheeler exports declined 15% to 1,88,478 units.

  • Total commercial vehicle sales dropped 27% to 29,063 units.

M&M's Auto And Tractor Sales Rise 

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.'s auto segment posted an overall sales of 45,640 units in April, registering a growth of 25% over the same period last year even as the company continue to closely monitor the chip shortage related parts crunch.

The sales, however, declined 16.4% over the preceding month.

M&M's total passenger vehicle sales too rose 23% over the same period last year to 22,526 units on the back of strong demand of its new launches.

The company said while demand across its products continues to be robust with strong booking numbers and pipeline, it is facing a number of supply chain challenges due to lockdown in China.

"We continue monitoring the developments closely and will take corrective action as appropriate," Veejay Nakra, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division at M&M Ltd., said

The farm equipment segment also rose 49% over the same period last year to 40,939 units.

Ashok Leyland Sales Rise 42%

Total sales of Ashok Leyland Ltd. rose 42% in April over the year-ago period to 11,847 units , according to the commercial-vehicle maker's exchange filing on Monday.`

Hyundai's Total Sale Falls 5.1%

Hyundai Motor India on Sunday reported a 5% decline in total sales over the same period last year to 56,201 units.

The company had sold 59,203 units in the same period last April. It's exports however increased 19.6% to 12,200 units in April.

Honda Cars India Sells 7,874 Units 

Honda Cars India reported a 13.2% decline in sales over the same period last year as it sold 7,874 units in April. It's export however doubled during the same period.

While the company said the customer sentiment continues to show improvement, it added that the supply chain challenges continues to remain a worry.

"We are hopeful that the situation improves sooner than later, so that the demand – supply equation can be more balanced," the statement added.

Tata Motors Car Sales Rise 66%

Sale of Tata Motors Ltd.'s passenger vehicle segment rose 66% over the year-ago period to 41,587 units in April 2022, according to an exchange filing.

Overall, Tata Motors' sales rose 73% to 72,468 units in April.

Maruti Suzuki Sells 1.5 Lakh Units In April

The country's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., reported a 5.6% fall in sales as it sold 1,50,661 units in April even as the chip shortage had minor impact on the production.

The company had sold 1,59,691 units in April last year. Maruti's sales also fell 11.2% over the previous month.

  • Exports rose 6.8% to 18,413 units.

  • Mini and compact vehicle segment sales fell 21.6% to 76,321 units.

  • Utility vehicle sales rose 33.18% to 33,941 units.

Toyota Sells 15,085 Units In April 

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported a 57% growth in sales year-on-year to 15,085 units in April, the company said in a statement. The company had sold 9,600 units in the same month last year.

Demand continues to peak in the new financial year, the company added.

MG Motor Says Production Impacted Due To Global Resurgence of Covid19

MG Motor India, which is owned by China's SAIC Motor saw its sales fall 22% over the same period last year as the supply chain constraints due to resurgence of Covid-19.

The company sold a total of 2,008 units in April, it said in a statement. The sales more than halved over the preceding month.

The automaker said the production remained volatile and immensely impacted by the global supply chain constraints due to the sudden & new Covid-19 lockdowns in different parts of the world.

"The situation is expected to improve gradually within 6-8 weeks," the company added.

VECV Sold 5,525 Units In April 

Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles, the commercial vehicle arm of Eicher Motors Ltd.'s total sales more than doubled to 5,525 units in April, the company said in an exchange filing. VECV had sold 2,145 units in the same month last year. Month-on-month, the sales however fell 37.2%.
