Amtrak, NJ Transit Trains to NYC Stopped Again Over Power Woes

Amtrak Says All N.Y. Penn Tracks Asked to Come to a ‘Safe Stop’

(Bloomberg) -- Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains to and from New York are on hold again.

Amtrak spokesman Jason Abrams said all trains between Philadelphia and New York are stopped because of a hold in place ordered by the Edison fire department, located between the Metropark and New Brunswick stations. NJ Transit said on Twitter that its Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast lines and Midtown Direct service is suspended in both directions “due to Amtrak overhead wire problems.”

Earlier, all trains traveling between Philadelphia and New York Penn Station were halted on the tracks from about 10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. because of overhead wire problems. Trains resumed operating with delays of about an hour, and then were halted a second time by fire officials.

Amtrak had to rescue three disabled trains from the Hudson River tunnel after the initial power interruption.
