Africa Data Centres Expands Use of Solar With Plant in Kenya
Africa Data Centres, a pan-African company that provides data services, has expanded its use of solar power by ordering the installation of a 1.2 megawatt plant at its facility in Nairobi.
The plant, which will be installed by Distributed Power Africa, adds to solar installations at its Cape Town and Johannesburg centers. Africa Data Centres also has facilities in Harare, Zimbabwe and Kigali, Rwanda.
“The power needs of data centers tend to be large and sensitive,” said Norman Moyo, chief executive officer of DPA, in a statement. “Solar can improve the reliability of power supply.”
Companies across Africa are increasingly turning to solar power to cut costs and improve reliability of electricity supply in countries with regular grid outages.
