India’s Ministry of Defence today approved procurement for the Services amounting to approximately Rs. 46,000 crore, it said in a statement.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), the ministry's highest decision-making body on procurement. The DAC is chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The procurement will include an order for 111 utility helicopters for the Navy at a cost of over Rs 21,000 crore.

This is the first project under the MoD’s prestigious Strategic Partnership (SP) Model that aims at providing significant fillip to the Government’s ‘Make in India’ programme.
