Tesla Taps Amazon Executive to Take Over Its Energy Division

(Bloomberg) -- Sanjay Shah is leaving Amazon.com Inc. to run Tesla Inc.’s energy division.

He joins Tesla as senior vice president of energy operations, responsible for deployment of solar and storage products, the company said in a blog post Thursday. Shah replaces Cal Lankton, who is leaving the company after five years, Tesla said in a separate email.

The move comes as the Palo Alto, California-based company is undertaking a broad reorganization after ballooning to nearly 40,000 employees globally. Though best known for its electric cars, Tesla’s products also include solar panels, photovoltaic rooftop shingles, a home battery-storage system and utility-scale batteries.

Shah worked at Dell before joining Amazon in 2011. His most recent title at the online retailer was vice president of North American fulfillment centers.

Tesla also announced that Jan Oehmicke will join Tesla in July as vice president of Tesla Europe, managing finance, sales and operations for the region after an 18-year career at BMW AG.
