Reliance Jio Adds Over 80 Lakh Customers In December

Telecom subscriber base in India reached 119 crore at the end of December 2017 with Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. adding over 80 lakh new customers during the month, according to data published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 118.5 crore at the end of November 2017 to 119.1 crore at the end of December 2017, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.4 percent.

The growth was led by mobile telephony segment with net additions of 49.7 lakh customers by five telecom operators Reliance Jio, Idea Cellular Ltd., Vodafone India Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

Here’s the list of telecom companies that added subscribers in December:

  • Reliance Jio: Over 80 lakh
  • Idea Cellular: 24.3 lakhs
  • Vodafone: 15 lakhs
  • Airtel: 5.76 lakhs
  • BSNL: 4.21 lakhs

Here’s the list of telecom companies that shed subscribers in December:

  • Aircel Ltd.: 26.5 lakhs
  • Reliance Communications Ltd.: 23 lakhs
  • Telenor India Communications Pvt.: 17.1 lakhs
  • Tata Teleservices Ltd.: 13 lakhs
  • MTNL: 6,561

Despite closure of mobile services, RCom was left with over 3.3 crore customers. TRAI has asked RCom to refund unspent money of customers who have not been able to port their numbers to other operators.
