The Unique Identifcation Authority of India has registered a First Information Report or FIR against the newspaper, Tribune and its reporter Rachna Khaira, following her report on Aadhaar breach. The FIR was lodged by B M Patnaik, a deputy director at UIDAI’s logistics and grievance redressal department, according to a report in Indian Express.

The FIR has also been filed against Anil Kumar, Sunil Kumar and Raj, all of whom were mentioned in the Tribune report.

Immediately after the Tribune report, the UIDAI and government denied any such breach. The authority claimed it is a case of misreporting and the claims of bypassing the enrollment system are totally unfounded.

The FIR has been filed with the New Delhi Crime Branch’s cyber cell under Indian Penal Code sections 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document), as well section 66 of the IT Act and section 36/37 of the Aadhaar Act.
