E-way bills for interstate transportation of goods will make the system more transparent, benefits of which, will be seen in the long run, said Gopal Mahadevan, CFO of Ashok Leyland Ltd.

Rated load rules will facilitate smooth checks of overloading after e-way bills are implemented. These rules make it necessary for a machine's nameplate to specify the maximum load it is allowed to carry. This will increase the demand for trucks in future, wherein; trucks of capacity, as high as 49 tonnes are also slated for sale, Mahadevan told BloombergQuint.

Ashok Leyland will not compromise with the pricing and will not give discounts to get higher volumes as the company has a fine balance between growing market and profitability, he said. The company will instead focus on providing a complete solution to the customers with vehicles performing well in all parameters, he added.
