Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India sold twice the number of units on the first day of the ongoing festival season compared to last year, backed by promotional offers, increased production and higher network expansion.

The two-wheeler maker sold about 50,000 vehicles on the first day of Navaratri, compared to 24,000 units in 2016, Senior Vice-President (Sales & Marketing) YS Guleria told BloombergQuint.

This helped the company gain an additional 3 percent market share, he said. “We are at 30 percent plus market share from the April-August period. That’s the highest market share for the company in the domestic market.”

The company’s promotional schemes, especially to government employees, which gave about Rs 5,000 savings to customers, also helped boost sales, Guleria said.

With the plan to have above 500 additional networks, including about 200 added during the first five months of this year, and the launch of new Cliq, helped us to reach more consumers.
