17 Contractors Shortlisted for Mumbai-Trans Harbour Link
Mumbai Trans Harbour Link will have the longest sea bridge in the country.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has shortlisted 17 contractors for the Rs 15,000-crore project to connect the city with its suburban twin Navi Mumbai through the longest sea bridge in the country.
“This is the final list. Now the technical evaluation of bids would happen,” said Sanjay Khandare, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA. This process could take another month or so, he said.
In all, 29 contractors had submitted bids for the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. Delayed by more than a decade, it will be a 22-kilometre bridge, connecting Sewri in central Mumbai with Nhava Sheva to its east across the Thane creek. Nearly 16.5 km of it will run over the sea and is expected to take four years to complete.
Khandare said all environmental clearances are in place and construction can begin by October-November.
The road bridge will be built in three sections or packages. Six contractors each have been shortlisted for Package-I and Package-II, and five for Package-III. Of these, one contractor each will be selected to build the three sections, Khandare said.
The first package that involves Rs 7,000-crore investment would be 10.38 km long, starting from Sewri. Six consortia are in the race:
- AFCONS Infrastructure, Fluor Corporation and Shapoorji Pallonji
- Tata Projects and Daweoo Engineering and Construction
- Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd. and SK Engineering and Construction Ltd.
- IL&FS Transportation Networks and SP Singla Constructions Pvt. Ltd.
- ITD Cementation, Simplex Infrastructures, Italian Thai Development Public Co and Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co.
- Larsen & Toubro and IHI Infrastructure Systems
The second 10.38-km package with an investment of Rs 6,000 crore also has the same bidders.
Five bidders in the race for the third 3.6-km stretch to be built at Rs 2,000 crore include:
- AFCONS Infrastructure, Fluor Corporation and Shapoorji Pallonji
- ITD Cementation, Thakur Infra Projects and JM Mhatre Infra
- J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd.
- Larsen & Tourbo Ltd.
- NCC Ltd.
The link road would provide a direct access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and to Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
