Honda Launches WR-V, Its First Compact SUV In India

The compact SUV starts at Rs 7.75 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.

Honda Cars India Ltd. launched the WR-V, its first compact sports utility vehicle in India, on Thursday to take on rivals like Maruti Suzuki Ltd. and Ford India Private Ltd.

The WR-V is priced at Rs 7.75 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and comes with a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine.

It will compete with Maruti’s Brezza and Ford’s EcoSport, among others.

The WR-V is the first model to be jointly developed by the company’s research teams in India and Japan, the automaker said at the global launch in New Delhi. Over 90 percent of the parts of the vehicle are manufactured in India, Jnaneshwar Sen, senior vice-president (sales and marketing), Honda Cars India, told BloombergQuint.

On competition, Sen said India is a growing market and there is space for everyone.
