Sony Pictures Adds 5 TEN Sports Channels To Its Kitty, 2 More To Go

Sony Pictures Networks India has completed the first of its two-phase acquisition of the TEN Sports Network from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd.

In this phase, TEN 1, TEN 1 HD, TEN 2, TEN 3 and TEN Golf HD have been added to Sony's cluster of sports channels, the company said in a media statement. The remaining two channels, TEN Cricket and TEN Sports, will be transferred to Sony in the final phase of the transaction to be completed in the next few months, the statement added.

Zee Entertainment announced the sale of the sports channel for Rs 2,583 crore in August 2016, calling it a "strategic portfolio shuffle".

TEN Sports currently has telecast rights to five of the ten test playing cricket boards. Besides cricket, TEN Sports also has rights to broadcast events like The Union of European Football Associations Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Women’s Tennis Association, Tour de France, and the World Wrestling Entertainment.
