Flipkart Names Kalyan Krishnamurthy Its CEO, Binny Bansal To Head Group

Current CEO Binny Bansal has been promoted to head the newly formed Flipkart Group.

Flipkart has named former Tiger Global executive Kalyan Krishnamurthy as the chief executive of India’s largest online retailer in a new organisation structure announced on Monday.

Binny, who was till now the CEO, will head the newly formed Flipkart Group organisation while co-founder Sachin Bansal will continue as executive chairman, the e-commerce major said in a media statement. Binny had replaced Sachin as the CEO in January 2016.

Nitin Seth, currently the chief administrative officer, has been named the COO and will report to Kalyan.

Ananth Narayanan will continue to be the CEO of Myntra-Jabong and Sameer Nigam will continue to lead PhonePe. Kalyan, Ananth and Sameer will report to Binny.

Flipkart Group is looking for a group CFO and general counsel, who will also report to Binny.

Kalyan Krishnamurthy, currently heading the Category Design Organisation will become the CEO of Flipkart. Kalyan will be responsible for operationally driving Flipkart and will be responsible for Flipkart P&L (profit and loss)

Categories, marketplace, customer shopping experience, private label and marketing will continue to report to Kalyan. In addition, the engineering vertical led by Ravi Garikapati will now report to Kalyan, the statement said.

Nitin will be responsible for Ekart and customer experience, in addition to his existing role of leading HR, strategy to execution capabilities and corporate functions for Flipkart.

The Flipkart Group organisation will focus on value creation through a portfolio of "new high growth businesses" while also managing the capital allocations across group companies such as Flipkart, Myntra-Jabong and PhonePe, the company statement said.
