In India, where gold is not just a metal but an emotion as well, it is only natural that we have specific days when it is considered auspicious to buy gold.

Dhanteras, which marks the beginning of Diwali, is usually the chosen day for people to purchase gold, silver or for that matter any other precious metal because they believe doing so will bring prosperity and good luck for the family and business endeavours.

But what’s been the sentiment this year as the yellow metal lost some of its sheen over the last few months? BloombergQuint decided to do a ground check at Mumbai’s Zaveri Bazaar, the hub of gold trade in the city, to find out. And some things, it seems, never change.
