N Chandrasekaran, Ralf Speth Join Tata Sons Board

The appointments came a day after Cyrus Mistry was removed as the chairman of Tata Sons.

Tata Sons on Tuesday appointed N Chandrasekaran and Ralf Speth as additional directors on the Tata Sons board.

Chandrasekaran is currently the chief executive officer and managing director of TCS while Ralf Speth is the chief executive officer of Jaguar Land Rover.

“This is in recognition of their exemplary leadership in their companies,” Ratan Rata, the interim chairman of Tata Sons said in a statement.

Responding to his appointment, N Chandresekaran said, “I am humbled by this honour and I look forward to contributing to the board.”

With the appointments of Speth and Chandrashekharan, the Tata Sons board has expanded to 12 members.

The present board of Tata Sons includes Tata himself, along with Cyrus Mistry, Venu Srinivasan, Ronen Sen, Nitin Nohria, Farida Khambhata and Ajay Piramal, among others.

Tuesday’s appointments came a day after Cyrus Mistry was removed as the chairman of Tata Sons. Mistry was was replaced by Ratan Tata as the interim chairman for four months.

Earlier in the day, Ratan Tata asked CEOs of group firms to focus on their business and enhancing returns to shareholders without being distracted by change in top leadership.
