In a swift move, after Tata Sons removed Cyrus Mistry as the Executive Chairman of the Tata Group, the Interim Chairman of the group, Ratan Tata has discontinued with the advisory body, the Group Executive Council (GEC) formed by Cyrus Mistry, said a source in Bombay House, the headquarter of the $100 billion Tata Group.

Cyrus Mistry, had also discontinued the Group Governing Council set up by Ratan Tata when he took charge of the Tata Group in 2012. The members of the group executive council (GEC) included NS Rajan, who is in-charge of the human resources for the group, Mukund Govind Rajan, responsible for the communications and ethics and brand custodian of the group and Madhu Kannan in-charge of business development and corporate affairs for the group. Other GEC members included Nirmalaya Kumar, chief of strategy and Harish Bhat who headed the group’s retail foray.

Discontinuation of the group executive council does not mean they discontinue to be Tata Group employees, in fact Mukund Govind Rajan and Harish Bhat will be given new roles the source cited above said. The fate of other GEC members remains unknown.

A Tata Group spokesperson did not comment on this move.
