Tata Motors September Sales Rise 8%, Tiago Drives Passenger Car Sales

Exports during the month were up 29 percent on year-on-year basis.

Tata Motors Ltd.’s total sales rose 8 percent to 48,648 units in September compared to 45,215 units in the same month last year.

Domestic sales recorded a 5 percent growth to 42, 961 vehicles compared to the corresponding period last year, the automaker said in a press release on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Passenger car sales in the domestic market stood at 14,601 vehicles, a growth of 24 percent over 11,732 units sold last year, driven by strong demand for the recently launched Tiago. For the industry, the cumulative sales growth of all passenger vehicles in the domestic market, grew 12 percent to 72,665 units last month, on a year-on-year basis, Tata Motors said in the release.

In the commercial vehicles segment, the company's domestic sales were down 2 percent at 28,360 units.

Exports during the month were up 29 percent at 5,687 units compared with 4,402 units sold in September 2015.
