BlueCrest Hires Two Ex-Visium Money Managers for Equities Team

(Bloomberg) -- BlueCrest Capital Management has hired two former money managers at Visium Asset Management in London, expanding its equities-trading team.

Robert Bonte-Friedheim and Owen Taylor started at the investment firm run by billionaire Michael Platt this month, according to Ed Orlebar, a spokesman for BlueCrest. The duo joined their former Visium colleague Nick Chetwynd-Talbot, who last month started working for BlueCrest’s equities-investment team run by Christian Dalban.

Visium employees are exiting as the $8 billion investment firm winds down after the U.S. in June brought charges against its executives in an insider-trading case. In July, Citadel hired 17 money managers from the firm’s multi-strategy fund for a new stock unit.

BlueCrest also hired Areti Loizou, a former credit analyst at $22 billion hedge-fund firm BlueMountain Capital Management, Orlebar said. Bonte-Friedheim, Taylor and Loizou didn’t respond to calls seeking comments.

BlueCrest is boosting its investment team after several departures this year, following the firm’s decision in December to return money to clients and focus on managing Platt’s wealth and that of his partners and employees. The company said last week that it expects to return more than 92 percent of client cash by the end of September, after the hedge fund missed an earlier repayment target.
