The government deregistered over 14,800 non-governmental organisations over the last five years for violating foreign funding rules under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010, the Lok Sabha was told on Tuesday.

Replying to a written question, Minister Of State For Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said the registrations were cancelled because the NGOs received foreign funding in contravention of the FCRA.

According to Rai, NGOs received Rs 16,894.37 crore in foreign funding in 2017-18, Rs 15,343.15 crore in 2016-17 and Rs 17,803.21 crore in 2015-16.
