(Bloomberg) -- Just one month ago, Tesla Inc. was explaining a decline in its rooftop solar business by saying the company was still transitioning sales efforts from “former partners” to its own stores and training a sales team to market solar systems alongside cars.

On Thursday, the electric car and solar panel maker said it was closing stores. Meanwhile, Tesla keeps losing its share of the U.S. rooftop solar market to the leader of the pack, Sunrun Inc.

“It’s inconsistent with very recent statements,” Hugh Bromley, a New York-based analyst at BloombergNEF, said in an interview Thursday. “Tesla continues to close the sales avenues it’s supposedly emphasizing.”
