Starbucks Illinois Baristas to Make Lattes With Wind Power

(Bloomberg) -- Starbucks Corp. will soon be able to brew lattes and other cups of joe with wind power at more than 340 Illinois stores in the latest step toward the coffee supplier’s goal of eliminating fossil fuels from its operations.

Baristas can make 100 million cups of coffee with the wind power the Seattle-based company has contracted to buy from Exelon Corp.’s Constellation unit, according to a statement Wednesday. The 14 megawatts of power will be generated by Enel SpA’s 185-megawatt HillTopper wind project in Logan County, which is expected to go into service by the end of the year.
