Drillinginfo Founder Changes Company Name He Never Really Liked

Oil-well data is only part of the business now, co-founderGilmer says

(Bloomberg) -- Drillinginfo Inc. is changing its name to Enverus in an effort to broaden its appeal beyond the oil patch.

Allen Gilmer, who co-founded the Austin-based industry consulting firm 20 years ago, said he never really loved the name, but stuck with it as the provider of oil-well data turned into a recognizable brand name among explorers and producers. Now the firm generates roughly 60% of sales from explorers, and the rest from areas such as refining, chemicals and power.

"We are doing so much more than we originally did," Gilmer said in an interview. "We have a lot of clients today, a lot of money in our revenue stream for people that don’t have an affinity for oil and gas, and looked at it as an issue."

The company will be re-organized in three divisions: oil and gas analytics, trading and risk, and business automation. The oil and gas unit will still be called Drillinginfo, Gilmer said.
