The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India released data for July 2021. Here are the key highlights:
Industry subscriber base saw steady growth in gross/active subscribers of 8.5 million/4 million, reaching 1,189 million/989 million.
In June 2021, the same grew by 4 million/1.3 as the industry witnessed gradual recovery post the lifting of lockdown restrictions.
This was mainly led by Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel Ltd. saw moderate growth, and Vodafone Idea Ltd. continued to see a decline.
The biggest gain was seen in RJio, with gross/active subscriber additions of 6.5 million/6.1 million each to 443 million/346 million, adding 30 basis point/40 basis point market share.
This was mainly supported by a strong performance in rural market, with 3.5 million subscriber additions, estimated to be from JioPhone.
