Motilal Oswal Report
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India released data for August 2021. Here are the key highlights:
the industry gross/active subscriber base grew nil/2.4 million to 1187 million/992 million, (6 million/4.5 million adds in July 2021). However, the flux from Vodafone Idea Ltd. to other telcos, particularly Reliance Jio, remained steady with improving market share.
while gross adds for Bharti Airtel Ltd./RJio were muted at 0.6 million/0.1 million, active subscriber adds were particularly strong for RJio at 4.1 million versus Airtel at 0.8 million.
this was potentially led by SIM card consolidation from 0.8 million/1.9 million decline in gross/active subscribers for Vodafone Idea.
RJio now leads the active subscriber share at 35.4% versus 35% for Airtel.
