The latest data release indicates that scheduled commercial banks’ current account and savings account mobilisation pace moderated to 14.2% YoY in Q1 FY22 (from 17.6% in Q4 FY21 and 15.3% in Q1 FY21).
CASA composition contracted marginally to 43.8% from 44.1% in Q4 FY21 even as term deposit growth slipped to 6.3% YoY.
CA and SA growth momentum moderated to 15.3% and 13.9% (as compared to 21.7% and 16.7% in Q4 FY21), respectively.
CA and SA sequential growth figures point toward the cyclical nature of the business in the first quarter.
On an incremental basis, in overall deposit mobilisation, saving account deposits gained traction and contributed to ~49% of incremental deposits versus ~45% in Q4 FY21 and 43% in Q1 FY21.
