The Indian rupee ended flat on Wednesday against the U.S. dollar for the second straight day as markets turned cautious ahead of the Fed Speech from Jerome Powell on Thursday.

Sentiments remained upbeat supported by optimism surrounding the U.S.-China Phase 1 trade deal and foreign fund inflows into the domestic equity markets.

However, appreciation was limited due to likely intervention by the central bank in the spot and forwards market to counter the impact of dollar portfolio inflows into the counter.

The rupee was quoted at 74.30 to the dollar this Wednesday compared with 74.32 on Tuesday.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex and the broader Nifty 50 index ended 0.59% and 0.67% higher, respectively on Wednesday.

The U.S. Dollar index edged lower on Wednesday but stayed within a relatively tight range a day ahead of a highly anticipated speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
