ICICI Securities Report

Securities and Exchange Board has released a discussion paper titled ‘Review of Ownership and Governance norms to facilitate new entrants to set up Stock Exchange / Depository’.

The paper highlights the need for more competition among market infrastructure institutions, namely exchanges and depositories, to improve overall efficiency and governance as well as to better adapt to new-age disruptive technologies.

The paper proposes to address the issue with liberalisation of ownership framework for new entrants, at least in the initial stages.
