ICRA Report
The all-India electricity demand witnessed a growth of 7.5% in May 2021 on a year-on-year basis considering the lower base.
However, the demand in May 2021 is lower compared to April 2021 due to rising rate of Covid-19 infections and consequent imposition of restrictions across various states.
However, the average daily demand increased by 6.9% in June 2021 over May 2021 due to gradual relaxation in restrictions provided by a few states with a steady decline in fresh Covid-19 infections.
ICRA maintains the electricity demand growth estimate at 6.0% for FY2022, considering the favourable base effect, relatively lesser impact of the second wave on electricity demand and expected pick-up in the vaccination programme.
