Motilal Oswal: Telecom Sector Trend - Subscriber Churn Taking Place

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India released data for September 2020.

The key highlights are below:

Gross subscribers increased by a mere 0.7 million month-on-month (versus 3.5 million/3.7 million in July 2020/August 2020) to 1.15 billion in September 2020.

There is a churn taking place, with Vodafone Idea Ltd. losing 4.7 million subscribers to Bharti Airtel Ltd./Reliance Jio, which added 3.8 million/1.5 million.

Active subscriber additions slowed down to 1 million (versus 1.6 million additions in August 2020), as Airtel/Reliance Jio added 3.8 million/0.7 million against a 3.4 million churn in Vodafone Idea’s active subscribers.
