The growth momentum in health insurance premiums has sustained in December 2021, according to our channel checks. However, the claims ratio that started to stabilise in Dec-21 is likely to spike in January 2022 led by the third Covid-19 wave.
The severity of the claims, albeit, will be markedly lesser than the previous waves. The premium growth in motor segment remains subdued, while the claims ratio has increased substantially owing to higher frequency and lower pricing. Motor third-party price hikes are likely to come through in the near term. Commercial lines are seeing strong momentum buoyed by the economic recovery.
