Overall rainfall remains at normal levels in the current South-West monsoon season; however, spatial distribution remains uneven with the East and the North-east regions facing shortfall of 13% whereas the south peninsula has received a surplus rainfall of 11%.
The reservoir levels across regions remain healthy which supports irrigation activity, thereby reducing adverse impact of uneven rainfall.
Despite erratic rainfall, overall kharif sowing has witnessed significant improvement in July 2021 with acreage in most of the crops at normal or higher levels and overall sowing expected to remain marginally lower than record 2020 levels.
