In this note, we have highlighted the trends in new Covid-19 cases at the local and global levels – specific states/countries have seen a surge in cases.
The pace of vaccination is yet to be increased, subject to production scalability and the availability of capacity to manufacture the required vaccines.
On account of the Covid-19 outbreak, the government implemented a strict lockdown on March 24, 2020, followed by region-specific measures.
As a result, the number of new cases was brought under control from the peak of September 2020 (96,424 per day) to ~9,100 new cases per day in Feb-21.
However, the number of new cases per day has spiked in the past month, exceeding the previous peak.
