Care Ratings Research Report

The debt markets in September 2020 were marked by high levels of borrowings by the government and corporates alike along with a rise in market yields.

The central and state governments have been resorting to fundraising from the market to meet their funding shortfalls caused by the sharp fall in their revenues consequent to the pandemic led disruptions.

The higher quantum of borrowings coupled with the rise in domestic inflation has pressured yields, raising the cost of borrowings for the central as well as state governments.

The rise in yields of government securities was reflected across the corporate debt markets too.
