Banking Sector Check - No Signs Of Change In Spread Trajectories In June: Systematix

Systematix Research Report

In its end-July 2021 data release, the Reserve Bank of India revised the data series pertaining to lending and deposit rates for prior months.

There were significant alterations in the weighted average term deposit rates and minor changes in the weighted average lending rates, fresh loans and outstanding loans.

The WATDR of public sector banks were overstated by 2 basis points-17 bps for July 2020-May 2021.

Foreign banks’ fresh loans WALR and outstanding loans WALR were under-stated by 2 bps for November 2020-January 2021 and 2 bps-13 bps for Nov 2020-Feb 2021.

As the data submitted by banks is provisional, the past data points have undergone a revision.
