Ashok Leyland, via its UK arm Optare, aims to become a significant player in the global e-commercial vehicle industry, especially the buses and light commercial vehicle segment.
It expects the industry size to reach $70 billion in 2030 from $5 billion currently.
The company believes that the learning from Optare has given it a first-mover advantage to gain a significant share in the global markets.
As upfront capital costs for EVs are still high, the company also plans to offer mobility solutions (via OHM Global Mobility) customised for customers based on the lowest total cost of ownership.
