With fewer operational days and stringent regulations, post-lockdown lifting, it was a lull Q1 FY21 for retailers.
Apparel/innerwear/footwear fell 89%/24%/67% YoY, while department store revenue fell approximately 58% YoY.
E-commerce gained traction significantly, to double digits for some companies.
Efforts were made to reduce discretionary costs to minimise cash burn and negotiate rentals till operations normalise.
The discounting trend has to an extent been curbed in order to carry forward inventory.
