(Bloomberg) -- Ukraine’s leader said he hopes for a “substantive” meeting with President Donald Trump, who’s embroiled the eastern European country in his bid for re-election next year.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, attending the United Nations General Assembly this week in New York, said Tuesday in a statement that he also hoped for progress on resolving the Kremlin-backed conflict in eastern Ukraine, including arranging international talks.

“We’ll have a meaningful, substantive meeting,” Zelenskiy said, highlighting that Ukraine needs the continued support of the U.S.
