The legality of a decree by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy calling the snap vote will be examined by the Constitutional Court. The eastern European country’s new leader, a TV comic with no political experience, is seeking to consolidate his power after his inauguration in May. His party leads polls before the July 21 ballot.

The court defined the case as “urgent,” according to a statement Tuesday on its website. It will start hearings on June 11, with no date set for a final verdict, the court’s press office said by phone.
